A Study of the Effect of Starch Content on the Water Absorption of PVA/starch Blends

The present work aims to study physical tests such as the water absorption tests of PVA; PVA/corn starch blends at different mass percent (25, 30, 35, 40, and 50%) of corn starch after immersion in distilled water for ten minutes. The blends were also characterized by FTIR analysis, and an optical microscope. Casting method used to prepare samples. The results of water absorption exhibited that the weight losses of the sample increases the starch content rises in the PVA matrix. Also, it was found the highest value of the swelling ratio % at (50% PVA /50% Starch) blend, while minimum values of the swelling ratio % at (75%PVA /25%Starch) blend and pure PVA film.
It was observed from optical microscope that the starch granules disperse well at 25 and 30 wt.% of the starch in the blend films. Nevertheless, clustering could be observed in the polymer blend at 35, 40, and 50 wt.% of starch component. It was shown that porous and spherical voids after the samples were immersed in distilled water.

Fabrication and Characterization for Phosphate Nanofertilizer through Polymer Coating Technique

Many organic and inorganic materials were used to enhance plant growth and soil fertility, in the present study phosphate and polyvinyl alcohol ( PVA) was used to prepare nanocapsules fertilizer by using Emulsification Solvent Diffusion Method (ESDM), nanocapsules of phosphate and polymer provide long-term sustained-release preparations, ensure long existence of fertilizer in attach with the plant. Particle size distribution was evaluated in addition to particle shapes were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), the activity of Nano-fertilizer was studied on Nigella sativa production and its extracts activity. The emulsification solvent diffusion method (ESDM) provided a good yield of P-nanofertilizer, nanoparticles size distribution ranged 40-150nm with particle size range 74.23nm

Effects of Ambient Temperature and Needle to Collector Distance on PVA Nanofibers Diameter Obtained From Electrospinning Technique

Electro spinning is regarded as an active technique for producing biomimetic scaffolds used in tissue engineering applications from synthetic and natural polymers. The technique used in this research gives the ability to produce bio-polymeric materials for fabricating engineered scaffold tissues by preparing (PVA) solution. Ambient temperature at (25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 °C) and needle tip to collector distance with (4, 8, 12, 15, 20 and 22 cm) were studied to optimize the electrospun fibers (size and shape). The electrospun fibers topography were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Measurements were done for each (SEM) images and lead to determine the mean diameters size of the obtained fibers. Results showed that the average fiber diameter of the (PVA) electrospun decreased to the range (220–500 nm) without creation of any beads, fibers diameter decreased as ambient temperature increase to certain temperature at (45 °C) and retrain to increase at (50 °C) temperature, while increasing the distance of the needle tip to collector decrease the mean nanofiber diameter from (875 nm) at (4 cm) to (600 nm) at (22 cm).

Studying the Structural and Optical properties of PVA doped with CuO and FeCl 3 composites films

In this research, we are studying structural and optical properties of film (PVA doped with CuO and FeCl3).The(CuO)with concentration (7%),and (FeCl3) with different concentrations of FeCl3 (3, 7, and 9) %,preparing by casting method with thickness (25±5) µm,thestructure characterized by using (XRD).The investigation of (XRD). indicates that the pure (PVA) and doping films are polycrystalline structure. The results of the measuring size, micro grain strain, dislocation density and number of crystals of each sampleshaw that the grain size increaseswith increasing concentration from(3.676-11.57 )nm . The absorbance and transmittancespectra have been recorded in the wavelength range (200-1100) nm inorder to studying the optical properties.The optical band gap of (PVA) decreaseswith increasing concentration of FeCl3from(4.3- 1.6)eV,and extinction coefficient, refraction index,the optical conductivity arevaries with increasing concentration.

Effect of TiO2 Nanoparticles on Water absorption and shrinkage of the PVA/CS Blend and PVA/CS nanocomposites thick Films

In this paper the effect ofaddition0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8,1gofTitanium oxide (TiO2)Nanoparticles inwater absorption, dimensions change and thickness for Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/Corn Starch(CS)10g/10g blend and PVA/CS/TiO2 thick films have been studied. Films were prepared using solution casting method. Films were immersing in water for 60 days. The results show that, the water absorption and dimensions change decrease with increasing nanoparticles content, but thickness increase with increasing nanoparticles after immersion, also weightlosing, dimensions change and thickness were found after drying. The results show that the weightlosing, dimensions change decrease with increasing nanoparticles, reducing in thickness increase with increasing nanoparticles
