Abstract

Abstract This research is devoted to study the wear characteristics of aluminum - 16 % silicon under dry sliding conditions at room temperature , using ( Pin - on - Disc ) technique . The wear rate has been measured as a function of alloy composition . i.e. various percentage of Pb , normal load , sliding distance , and disc hardness . The flash temperature was also measured . The surface structure of the alloy was examined after wear test using optical microscope . It has generally been observed that the wear rate and coefficient of friction : decrease noticeably with increasing lead content . The temperature of the contact surfaces also decreases with increasing wt % of lead .
